ABOUT CITYNET MINISTRIES

CityNet Ministries is an interdenominational urban mission organization that has a passion and commitment to reach every man, woman and child in the greater Philadelphia area with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The vision of CityNet is to see God—by His grace and for His own glory—ignite a church-planting and vitalization movement to the end that every man, woman and child in metropolitan Philadelphia might have the opportunity to hear, see and touch the reality and power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The mission of CityNet is to serve the Church—Christ’s body—by supporting men and women for effective gospel ministry that builds missional church communities and interdependent, citywide networks in order to bring about systemic transformation to underserved, multicultural neighborhoods throughout metropolitan Philadelphia.

New Mercy Ministry Website

For over twenty years ACTS Ministries has helped set the pace for mercy ministry. During that time I had the privilege of coordinating MercyNet as well. One leader called ACTS “an urban laboratory” for training and service. This has been chronicled in the book, Churches That Make a Difference. ACTS, Active Compassion Through Service, can now be found on the worldwide web at http://www.activecompassionphilly.org. There you will discover more about mercy ministry and you will find he… Continue

The Measure of Success

Peter Beck
Assistant Professor of Religion, Charleston Southern University

What does success look like? How can we tell who’s got it? Is there a standard? Who is and who isn’t successful?

Those kind of questions are regularly bandied about. When it comes to measuring success in the local church, the questions get even harder.

Is a successful church the one that baptizes hundreds? What if the church is in a community where most are already professing believers and attend church elsewher… Continue

Why Does the Church Need Pastors?

by Rev. Richard D. Phillips

Tonight’s question asks “Why does the church need pastors, and what are pastors supposed to do?” One reason why this question is sometimes raised, and why a small portion of Christian churches do not have ordained ministers, is that the Bible speaks so strongly about the Holy Spirit’s ministry for all believers. We believe that, according to Scripture, every Christian can understand God’s Word with the Holy Spirit’s help. 1 John 2:27 even says, “The anointing that yo… Continue
